Alternative crops have moved into the winter doldrums in a big way. The rabi season pulse harvest in India is just getting underway and is filling the needs in this region. Demand for all pulse crops at the present time can be described as soft.
Green edible peas are currently in the $9.00 to $9.50/bu range. No.2 or better yellow prices are at $5.75 to $6.50/bu. Alberta feed mill bids for feed pea are in the $5.00 to $5.50 /bu range. Elevator bids are non competitive.
Very quite on the chick pea front. Good quality 9 mm kabuli chickpeas remain at the 25 to 29 cents/lb, 8 mm at 19 to 22 cents/lb and 7 mm at 12 to 15 cents/lb. Desi chickpeas are holding firm in the 12 to 15 cent/lb range.
Lentil prices - 1 CW laird prices in the 30 to 34 cent/lb range and Richlea type lentils in the 27 to 30 cent/lb range. Small seeded classes like estons/milestones are in the 20 to 23 cents/lb area. Red lentils are at 16 to 18 cents/lb.
No.1 yellow mustard prices have dropped to the 32 to 35 cents/lb range. Brown prices are currently sitting in the 39 to 42 cent/lb range. Oriental prices remain in the 20 to 22 cents/lb range.
