US farmers bussy with planting, no trading reported
There is a standoff in cash markets; markets mostly inactive in all areas over the past week. Only a few buyers and light selling interest. Farmers in the South preoccupied with planting new crop; traders with shipping previous sales.
In South Louisiana, there was limited bidding and very light selling of long grain over the weekend at $19.75/barrel--$12.19/cwt—fob farm immediate delivery basis No 2/55/70. Bid this week dropped to $19.25/barrel--$11.88/cwt but no trading reported at that price. Early this week small sales reported at $5.35 over loan price--$11.82/cwt—fob farm basis No 2/55/70—delivery last half April, first half May. Planting of new crop is nearing completion in South Louisiana.
In Texas, virtually no bids. Small sales of long grain reported at $5.35/cwt over loan--$11.82/cwt—fob farm. New crop planting going strong—nearing the end.
In the lower delta— sales of long grain reported at $12.35/cwt delivered barge, prompt delivery, basis No 2/55/7. Bids also reported for old crop at $5.55/bushel--$12.33/cwt—fob farm; and for new crop at $5.25/bushel--$11.67/cwt—but no sales reported. Unsold supply of old crop long grain in lower delta—Northeast Louisiana and Mississippi—nearly gone. Planting of new crop moving well in lower delta—conditions favorable for good crops.
In the upper delta—light selling and buying interest—no trading reported. Bids for long grain reported at $12.75/cwt delivered mill, prompt shipment—but no sales. Farmers busy planting; not attracted by current bids. Estimated 25% planted.
