Info reported on April 6 that nearly 3.1% of the winter grain sowings were damaged in areas totaling 8.56 million hectares.
At the same time, 14.6% of the general sowing areas, or 1.21 million hectares showed weak and thinned condition and 410,000 hectares or 4.8% of agricultural crops areas are to be resowed, the agency said. Otherwise, 3.3 million hectares of winter grains sowings 39.9% showed good condition, and 3.77 million hectares, or 45.5%, were in satisfactory condition.
As for winter wheat sowings, government estimates are that 200,000 hectares, or 3.1%, perished and 310,000 hectares, or 4.7%, need to be resowed. However, 2.59 million hectares, or 40.1%, are in good condition and 2.96 million hectares, or 45.8%, are in satisfactory condition, the agency said. Winter canola sowings perished throughout the areas of 220,000 hectares, or 15.4% of the general winter canola sowing areas. 26.8% of winter canola sowings, or 320,000 hectares, were in weak and thinned condition. Growers plan to resow 19.9% of winter canola sowings, or 280,000 hectares. UKRAINE AgroConsult sees the 2010 grain crop at 43.62 Mio t, up from 43.31 mom. Wheat seen at 18.46 Mio t, up from 18.05 mom.
UkrAgroConsult agriculture consultancy on Wednesday revised up Ukraine's 2010 grain crop forecast to 43.62 million tonnes from the previous outlook of 43.31 million.
The consultancy forecast the grain harvest at 43.95 million tonnes in January. The Farm Ministry forecast the 2010 grain crop at 46-47 million tonnes compared to 46 million in 2009 and 53.3 million in 2008.
The consultancy raised the estimate for Ukrainian wheat harvest to 18.46 million tonnes from 18.05 million, but reduced the 2010 barley crop forecast to 11.25 million from 11.35 million.
UkrAgroConsult said it had revised its grain crop outlook due to the better condition of Ukrainian winter wheat. The consultancy increased the forecast for winter wheat harvested area to 6.2 million hectares from 6.0 million a month earlier.
But on Tuesday the consultancy said the state of Ukrainian winter crops had worsened as the share of crops in poor condition rose to 14.6 percent as of April 1 from 13.5 percent as of March 21.
It also said 39.9 percent of winter grain was in good condition compared to 41.2 percent as of March 21 and 45.6 percent in late February. The proportion of crops in satisfactory state rose to 45.5 percent from 45.3 percent.
