Canada pulses report
Green pea markets settle down to the 5.75 per bushel – it seems there is a line of resistance on the growers’ part to sell at any less than that. This is for now. If we get some demand we will have to wait and see how they react.

Yellow peas are a similar story. Growers are long and have realized that the markets have gone elsewhere. Prices are currently in the 4.75 per bushel range.

Here’s one thing. If prices hold at these levels, we don’t have to worry about them buying a bunch of extra acres! This is exactly the situation lentils are in right today. We are expecting a reduction in the acres of peas seeded this spring.

Weather-wise, things are coming along nicely for spring. Today, it looks like we could be in the field in three weeks – this is a bit earlier than usual. On the ag news they reported that there could be a large infestation of grass hoppers in the west central region this year. This happens to be the other large growing area for pulses in Saskatchewan. Whether or not there is an infestation will be dictated by how much moisture we receive in June and July. Grass hoppers don’t particularly like wet feet!

We are only five months away from the best crop ever!
