Vietnam Rice Prices Rise On World Market
HANOI, Aug 21 Asia Pulse - Prices of Vietnamese rice are on the continued rise in the world market in spite of the fact that the Asian market witnessed a slight reduction in the opener of the week due to impact of the Thai baht devaluation against US dollar.

The Development Information Centre under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) reported that Vietnamese exporters offer to sell rice with 15 per cent of broken grain at $US298.6 per tonne. Prices of rice with either 5 per cent or 10 per cent of broken grain both enjoy an increase of $2.2, fetching $307.6 and $302.6 a tonne, respectively. Rice with 25 per cent of broken grain has its price go up by $2.8 to $292.6 a tonne.

Experts predicted that prices of Vietnamese rice continue to rise in the rest of the year to a level almost on a par with Thai products as supply is down and demand is up.

For example, Thai rice with 5 per cent of broken grain is offered at $323 per tonne, or one dollar down, against the price of $307 for Vietnamese rice of the same kind.
