Serbia: Good Sunseed Yield Expected
EASTBUSINESS.ORG
The marketing agency AquaGroup announced on Thursday that sunflower was sown on approximately 30 per cent less land than in 2005, but that a good yield is expected because of favourable weather conditions.

According to the announcement, the sunflower crops should be sown this month and because the yield is expected to exceed the processing capacities, a number of farmers is considering another sowing this year, after the harvest of wheat and barley.

It is expected that the agricultural company Sava Kovacevic from Vrbas would have the most land under sunflower more than 350 hectares and that, because of the fact that the company employs the most advanced agricultural measures, the yield from its crops would be several times the average.

According to data of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, sunflower was mostly sown in Vojvodina this year and only on 135,000 hectares, instead of the planned 185,000 hectares.

In 2006, sunflower was sown on 184,000 hectares in Vojvodina and the average yield was 2.15 tonnes per hectare.
