Corn, wheat hit 10-year highs
NEW YORK (Reuters) -- U.S. corn and wheat hit 10-year highs Friday as funds focused on grains more than other commodities over the last week went on a buying spree after seeing bullish crop data for both products.

Soybeans hit a 1-year high, joining the rally on the Chicago Board of Trade, which saw its electronic trading platform disrupted twice by technical problems Friday, bringing the number of trading outages for the week to three.

The rally came ahead of Monday's public holiday in the United States for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. The CBOT will reopen with overnight electronic trade Monday before returning to its regular schedule Thursday.

CBOT corn for March hit the 20-cent limit-up allowed in a trading session and held those gains to close at $3.96-1/2 per bushel. The January contract expired 42 cents up at $7.06 a bushel.

Unfilled buy orders for corn, estimated at roughly 90,000 contracts, were in place by the close of trading. The activity implied another limit-up move for corn when it reopens overnight Monday on the e-cbot electronic trading platform.

In its January crop report released early Friday, the Agriculture Department reduced the 2006 domestic corn production figure to 10.535 billion bushels from 10.745 billion last month.
