Viet Export rice prices rise
|
 |
Vietnam's export rice prices this week has been increasing by a small margin due to higher demands and limited supply.
Farmers in the rice bowl of the Mekong delta have finished harvesting the summer-autumn rice crop; and the next harvest will be in December. Rice traders said supply will not increase in the coming months, adding to pressure for prices to rise.
Rice exporting companies in Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong delta have lifted their selling price. Rice with a 5% broken rice content has risen from US $260 to US $265 per tonne. Rice with a 25% broken rice content has risen from US $240 to US $242 per tonne.
Vietnam's biggest rice exporter, the Southern Food Corporation, has also increased its prices for government-level contracts by US $2 per tonne to US $275 for one tonne of rice with a 5% content of broken rice and to US $265 for one tonne of rice with a 25% content of broken rice.
During the week, six ships have been waiting in the Sai Gon Port to load 44,700 tonnes of rice for export to the Philippines and Africa, and nine others left the port last week, carrying 53,563 tonnes of rice.
