Russia exports 10.5 mln tonnes of grain in July 2005-April 2006
Russian grain exports in the period between July 1, 2005 and April 1, 2006 were 4.2 million tonnes more than in the same period of the previous agricultural year.

WJ InterAgro analyst Vladimir Petrichenko told Interfax that wheat accounted for 9 million tonnes of the grain exported, including 8.2 million tonnes of food-grade wheat.

Barley exports amounted to 1.48 million tonnes in the period compared to 1.09 million tonnes in the entire previous agricultural year.

Russian grain exports have been falling in recent months, according to customs statistics. Figures for April exports will be released at a later time, but Petrichenko said exports did not exceed 500,000 tonnes in April compared to 658,000 tonnes in March and 1.1 million tonnes in December 2005. The reason for this, Petrichenko said, is that "demand for Russian grain on the world market is not high at the current price." The cost of a tonne of grain from Russia (based on Black Sea FOB) is $5 higher than average.

The Agriculture Ministry forecasts that Russian grain exports could total 12 million tonnes in the current agricultural year. The gross harvest in 2006 is expected to amount to 70-73 million tonnes compared to 78.1 million tonnes in 2005.
