Taiwan has contracted its entire 2005 public sector rice quota
Results of Latest Four Tenders (refer to TW5051) On December 28, 2005, Taiwan awarded three tenders for 4,220 tons of long grain brown rice to a Thai supplier at NT$14,602.5/mt ($441/mt); 610 tons of short grain milled glutinous rice to an U.S. supplier at NT$26,931/mt ($813/mt) and 3,000 tons of long grain milled rice to a Thai supplier at NT$15,446/mt ($466/mt). These three tenders succeeded smoothly.

A tender for 2,000 tons of long grain milled glutinous rice, however, was just concluded on February 10, 2006 after two failures due to the price offered exceeding the ceiling price and because the quality was under tender specifications. Taiwan awarded the tender to a Thai supplier at NT$14,055/mt ($435/mt) for delivery within 45 days from the contract signed date (See Table 2 for details). (Exchange rate was $1 to NT$33.13 on December 28, 2005 and $1 to NT$32.42 on February 10, 2006.)

Tender Completion for 2005 Public Sector Rice Quota

Taiwan has contracted for its entire 2005 public sector rice quota. The United States has captured approximate 80 percent of public sector rice imports for 2005, Thailand 17.46 percent and Australia 2.55 percent (See Table 1). The 2005 public sector rice quota was contracted for the latest delivery by April 30, 2006. As of today, approximately 50 percent of the contracted public sector quota rice has arrived in Taiwan.
