European countries adopt Tarlac rice-farming system
These countries have discovered that the rice program, which started in 2002, is giving some European countries better harvest, outsmarting other rice-farming methods.

In 2002 a delegation of prominent agriculturists from the Western Corn Rootworm Project in central and northern Europe inspected the Tarlac rice program. The survey was undertaken by the Food and Agricultural Organization’s Global Integrated Pest Management facility based in Rome, Italy.

Tarlac’s rice production system was awarded a plaque of appreciation by the Department of Agriculture for being the top performer in the country.

Yap initiated the program in his province in 2002 following President Arroyo’s call to farmers to shift to hybrid rice production.

The IPM uses a pest-control program in some 4,000 hectares riceland in the province.

The province’s IPM is environment-friendly because the technology discourages the use of chemical insecticides and determines the ratio of friendly and harmful insects in their farms.

The agricultural program introduces farmers to "new, modern and cost-saving techniques."

The system is being adopted in Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Bataan, Zambales, Pampanga and Aurora.

The local agriculturist office conducts farmer training to discover new ways of increasing production of all crops.
