Jordanian Grain Buyers Visit Stateline
Jordanian Grain Buyers Visit Stateline Rebekah Baum

It's their first trip to the Midwestern United States. Four Jordanian grain importers made a visit to Ken Greene’s Durand farm.

"For the purposes of keeping their poultry fed and supplying poultry to their people, they need to buy corn and the U.S. is the world's largest supplier of corn," says Greene.

The team had a chance to see first hand, how grain is harvested, handled, stored, and ultimately prepared for exportation.

"We've seen a high quality of corn that’s handled in a very professional way and we're interested in the way it's inspected and the official certificates ushered for its exportation," says Sadiq Qadoumi.

With the signing of the Jordan Free Trade Agreement back in 2000, tariffs were eliminated and grain exports increased tremendously. In fact, 90-percent of Jordan’s corn supply now comes from the U.S.

"We don't have the facilities, we don't have enough land and we have a shortage of water," says Haider Amayreh.

Greene is a member of the U.S. Grains Council, the organization hosting the tour. The council is dedicated to building stronger relationships with Jordanian grain buyers.

"As a corn farmer, we're interested in improving exports in order to keep prices at a decent level," says Greene.

The team says they're impressed with the quality and competitive pricing of U.S. grain. "We hope business with America in this product will increase day by day," says Amayreh.
