China announces import quotas for 2005 for rice
According to the announcement, the quantity of import quota for rice in 2006 will be 5.32 million tons (including 2.66 million tons of long rice and 2.66 million tons of short rice), of which 50 per cent will be for state trade firms.

Import quotas on wheat will be 9.636 million ton, of which 90 per cent will be distributed to state trade firms; corn, 7.20 million tons, of which 60 per cent will be for state trade firms.

The commission said that enterprises which import the above mentioned farm produce by way of general trade, processing trade, bartered trade, small-volume border trade, aid and donation shall apply for import quotas on farm produce and go through customs procedures with the import quota certificate. Products imported from other countries for entry into bonded warehouses, bonded zones, and export-oriented processing zones do not need to apply for the quotas.
SDRC will distribute the quotas in accordance with the applied quantity, past performance of import of applicants, production capacity and other related commercial standards.
The time of applying for import quotas of grain and cotton for 2006 is set at October 15-30, 2005. The SDRC will distribute the import quotas of farm produce to final users through authorized organs by January 1, 2006.
