Turkisg Grain Board Raises Procurement Prices
TMO announced that grain procurement prices were raised by YTL 0.003-0.005 per kilogram ($2.24- $3.73/ton) for each month of July and August. TMO also announced that price increases would continue in September and following months. TMO initially announced MY 2005 procurement price on June 3, 2005 at levels lower than 2004 (See TU2025).

TMO also will remove the 30 MT maximum limit (announced on June 3) to be procured from each farmer after September 1. Since this announcement comes only three weeks after the original announcement, and before any significant amount of grain has been purchased, one must assume that the price increase is in response to farmer complaints of low prices.
It was also announced that TMO procured about 250,000 MT of grains and paid YTL 70 million so far and procurement continues with full capacity. TMO officials are estimating this year’s wheat crop will be about two percent lower than the last year’s level. Post’s grain production estimates remain unchanged.
TMO grain procurement prices for June, July, and August are listed in the following Table.
Exchange rate: $1 = YTL 1.34
