Argentina's Wheat Exports May Rise 26% on Low Prices, Weather
Bloomberg
Argentina's wheat exports may increase 26 percent this year because of favorable weather and as its low prices for the grain attract overseas buyers, according to a U.S. government agricultural attache. Argentina may export 12 million metric tons of wheat in the marketing year ending Nov. 30, compared with 9.56 million tons a year earlier, the U.S. Foreign Agricultural Service said in its Argentina annual grain and feed report released yesterday. ``Argentina will continue to be an international player in the wheat trade due to the low prices,'' the report, written by Kari Rojas, said, without giving price data. Increased global supplies may extend declines in U.S. wheat futures on the Chicago Board of Trade, which yesterday fell to their lowest in three weeks. World wheat output was forecast to rise 13 percent to 623.8 million metric tons in the marketing year ending May 31, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said March 10. Wheat production in Argentina may rise to 16 million tons from 13.5 million tons a year ago because of ``excellent weather throughout the growing season'', the attache forecast in the report. The crop may fall to 15.5 million tons in the year starting Dec. 1, 2005. Argentina's corn exports may rise to 14 million tons in the market year started March 1, from 10.9 million tons, the report said. Production of the grain may increase to 19.5 million tons from 15 million tons, the report said. Overseas sales of barley may rise to 200,000 tons in the current year ending November from 190,000 tons, the report also said. Barley production may fall to 890,000 tons from 1 million tons in the same period.
