Taiwan allocated the first 15`000 metric tons for 205
The maximum, minimum and average prices were significantly higher than in 2003. The higher price for quota rights was mostly attributed to a tight market caused by an eleven percent of reduction in local production and careful management of rice sales from government stocks. The reduction of local production has also been reflected in the local paddy rice price. In September 2004, prices rose to NT$17.15/kg. This was 11 percent higher than a year earlier.
The quota rights were awarded to 31 importers through a competitive bidding at prices ranging from NT$13.588/kg to NT$17.600/kg, with a weighted average of NT$14.330/kg. The prices for quota rights were higher 2004 levels and were attributed to a tight market caused by an eleven percent reduction in local production and careful management of government rice sales from the public stocks. These import rights will be valid from January 1 through September 15, 2005. The remaining 40,652 metric tons of quota will be allocated in two tranches on March 31 and May 31, 2005.
The current exchange rate is $1 = NT$32.24.
