Burma - bean and pulses exports almost on zero
The flow of the new bean and pulse crops into Rangoon markets has been low. Trading activities are weak with almost no export shipping activities. Traders are cautious, watching the market situation, before making any trading transactions. Border trade is also depressed. The political changes in the top-level GOB leaders have created a desire to wait and see among the traders. It should be noted that export demand for beans and pulses from importing countries consistently dropped for the fifth-consecutive month this year. Japan, a regular buyer of Burma’s Butter beans, imported only a small amount of 336 metric tons of beans and pulses in October. Most of the European buyers bought only a few quantities, mainly Kidney beans. India took 73 percent of the total bean and pulse exports in October, followed by Pakistan (10 percent). Beans and Pulses export to China and Thailand are mostly border trade deals.

Burma exported 34,080 metric tons (mt) of beans and pulses in October, down 66 percent from the same period in 2003. Matpe accounts for 67 percent of total bean and pulse exports, followed by Mung beans (16 percent) and Chickpeas (14 percent), respectively. The major destination was India, accounting for 73 percent of the total beans and pulses export.
