Egypt wheat purchases
GAIN, September, 2004
Egypt's total wheat purchases for marketing year 2004/2005, starting July 2004 through September 12,2004 are estimated at 1,417,400 MT. U.S. market share during this period is estimated at 33.83 percent or 479,500 MT.

From the start of marketing year 2004/2005 (July, 2004) through September 12, 2004, Egypt imported a total of 1,417,400 MT of wheat. The following table details all purchases to date.

From All Sources From U.S.

General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC): 977,500 415,000
Private Sector: 439,900 64,500
Total: 1,417,400 479,500

During the first half of September, 2004, GASC purchased 55,000 MT of American SRW wheat at a price of $139.99 per MT(FOB) and 55,000 MT of SWW wheat at price of $144.28 per MT (FOB) for delivery during the first half of October, 2004. In addition, GASC purchased 37,500 MT of semi hard wheat from Syria at a price of $190 per MT (FOB). GASC also imported 55,000 MT of wheat from Argentina at a price of $128.75 per MT (FOB).

More private sector importers are expected to shift to purchase of Russian wheat as a result of its competitive price advantage. Russian wheat currently imports at a price of $150 per MT (C&F).
