Eastern and South Central Saskatchewan have suffered some frosty nights
Markets are experiencing some harvest pressure or at least anticipated harvest pressure. Saskatchewan and Northern Alberta essentially have not started harvest to any measurable degree. Eastern and South Central Saskatchewan have suffered some frosty nights so quality might become an issue with those crops the later that they stay out in the field. The other factor that seems to be making the overall special crops market a bit sluggish is the lack of interest from European buyers. One source commented that they seem to be taking their summer holidays quite seriously this year – perhaps reflecting the fact that the Olympics are taking place there.

In peas- green peas are averaging $2.25, which is down a bit from last week. Yellow peas are slightly lower across the province at $3.90 and feed peas are steady in their range from $3.50-$4.00 Preliminary reports peg yields anywhere from 30-50 bu/ac. Harvested reports are coming from the Northern US and Southern Alberta.

In lentils- #1 Lairds are unchanged at 16 cents per pound as are #1 Estons are 15 cents per pound.

Chickpeas have a bit firmer tone at a strong 30 cents per pound. Harvest is still a ways away for this crop.

Mustard prices for all types are unchanged at 14 cents per pound for yellow, 15 cents for brown and 16 cents for oriental.
