Corn and wheat weekly inspection report
CBOT, August 17, 2004
Mondays reports began with our weekly export inspection report showing 32.7 m.b. were inspected for near term export down from 36.2 the week prior but over a year ago of 31. year todate inspecti9ons are 1.750 b.b. versus 1.416 the year prior. It’s a neutral demand indicator near term. Mondays crop condition report came in at 73% good to excellent condition down 3% form the week prior but still over a year ago of 60%. We now have had no improvement in our crop since the July 27 report. With the crop almost fully developed traders believe last weeks U.S.D.A. crop report was the last of all the bearish news posting a growing season low and double chart bottom at 2.26. No one wants to be a buyer as our crop still looks to be a record but the massive shorts developed since our June high look to buy out pushing us higher near term. We took out our2.33 resistance today. Small speculators controlled over 50 thousand short positions coming into this week with some buying out today. Those who don’t follow the day session will come home from work look at the market and say I better get out lending to higher trade Wed. Upside potential is 2.47 with best case scenario of 2.56 longer term. Support now is 2.33.

Mondays weekly export inspection report showed 15.2 m.b. were inspected for near term export off sharply from the week prior of 26.8 and a year ago of 19.7. It’s a negative demand indicator for the week. Our crop progress report put our spring wheat harvest at 64% complete versus 48% a year ago this time. 66% is in good to excellent condition down 1% form the week prior. Weathers impact on the crop is dwindling as harvest moves on. It appears the end of the growing season has some of the big short positions buying back and going to the bank. Sept. wheat has resistance at 3.10 which was today’s hi8gh/ Don’t buy unless a close over 3.10 accurse. This would leave 3.30 as melt resistance. Dec. resistance is 3.25. Buy a close over this price only. The demand side remains a weak link leaving upside strength to come from over sold chart patterns.
