Grain Export Sales Highlights
Wheat: Net sales of 565,900 metric tons (MT) were 12 percent above the previous week and 23 percent over the prior 4-week average. Major increases for Japan (142,400 MT), Italy (74,100 MT), Egypt (60,000 MT), Taiwan (51,200 MT), Nigeria (49,100 MT), and China (45,900 MT) were partially offset by decreases for unknown destinations (77,200 MT). Exports of 631,000 MT were 7 percent less than the previous week, but 18 percent more than the prior 4-week average. The primary destinations were China (111,900 MT), Italy (74,100 MT), Taiwan (73,000 MT), Indonesia (53,600 MT), Japan (51,800 MT), and Iraq (48,400 MT).

Corn: Net sales of 318,000 MT were off 23 percent from the week earlier and 30 percent from the prior 4-week average. Major increases for Taiwan (232,400 MT, including 55,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), South Korea (168,500 MT, including 115,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), Canada (57,700 MT), Morocco (50,000 MT, including 45,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), and Japan (24,200 MT, including new sales of 85,400 MT, switches of 64,300 MT from unknown destinations, and reductions of 125,500 MT) were partially offset by decreases for unknown destinations (362,700 MT) and Panama (25,000 MT). Increases of 458,300 MT for delivery in 2004/05 were mainly for unknown destinations (175,000 MT), Japan (126,100 MT), South Korea (55,000 MT), Egypt (50,000 MT), and Panama (25,000 MT--switched from 2003/04). Exports of 810,400 MT were 20 percent below the previous week and 15 percent under the prior 4-week average. Japan (305,500 MT) was the leading destination, followed by Mexico (78,400 MT), Taiwan (60,400 MT), Morocco (50,000 MT), South Korea (47,200 MT), and Canada (33,600 MT). Note: Accumulated exports for Japan were adjusted downward by 58,100 MT.

Barley: There were no sales reported during the week. Exports of 1,200 MT were all for Canada.

Sorghum: Net sales of 37,500 MT were two-thirds below the week earlier and 49 percent under the prior 4-week average. The buyers were Mexico (22,200 MT) and Japan (15,300 MT). Sales of 83,100 MT for delivery in 2004/05 were for Japan (41,700 MT) and Mexico (41,400 MT). Exports of 25,800 MT--all to Mexico--were 84 percent below the previous week and 64 percent under the prior 4-week average.
