US Corn inspection report
CBOT, May 4, 2004
The export inspection report came out showing 33 m.b. were inspected for near term export up from 24.1 the week prior and 20 a year ago. Year todate inspection are 1.231 b.b. versus 988 m.b. a y ear ago. This should be viewed as supportive from a demand perspective. Corn inched higher today as corn planting looks to come in over 55% seeded and with warm and dry conditions thru Friday looking to take us to 75% or more this week This has commission houses buying on concern that a poor growing season with low ending stocks leaves us to trade higher to rotion the crop. Last year we saw better prices in May as planting wound up but cool and wet conditions in June saw weaker prices before we turned dry in July. We cant predict weathers impact long term but it's certain there's plenty of fear facing the growing season. Additionally traders want to be long ahead of May 12 U.S.D.A. crop report as thinking is they may lower ending stocks again. Dec. corn has support at 3.15. July at 3.20 and Sept. 3.15.
