USA Corn Weekly Inspection Report
CBOT, April 19, 2004
Our weekly export inspection report showed a weak 17.9 m.b. were inspected for near term export down fro 45.7 the week prior and 34 a year ago. This surprised the market a little as demand has been so strong. It suggest at least a temporary slowdown. Year todate inspections are 1.169 b.b. versus 945 m.b. a year ago. Corn traded both sides of unchanged several times as the bulls see a quick planting pace on very dry midwest conditions with thoughts of a drier long term pattern possible and bears see the quick pace as leading to more corn acres being planted than the acreage report suggested. The big myth in commodities is that a quick planting pace leads to more acres. A farmer has long since bought his seed and appropriate fertilizers. He's not going to finish corn planting g earlier than expected then throw is bean seeds in the garbage buy this myth is always talked about under these conditions with no historical fact to promote it. Now, the quick pacer of planting looks to slow as WXRISK.COM sees this week as wet with Thursday and Friday seeing 75% of the midwest with ˝ to 1.5 inches of rain. He sees next week as cool and wet as well. This looks to bring the planting pace into line the next 10 days. Tonight's crop progress report should show 25% planted some say 30% or more. If we come in over 30% we should have a near term price low in with July support at 3.10 and Dec. at 3.00.
