USA Corn - Weekly Export Inspection Report
CBOT, April 12, 2004
Corn started the day with its weekly export inspection report showing 45.7 m.b. were inspected for near term export. This was up from 28.3 the week prior and 26 a year ago. Year todate inspections are 1.151 b.b. versus 910 m.b. a year ago. These numbers are bullish from a demand perspective considering last week's lofty prices. Asia wants corn for feed at any cost. Commercials were sellers today leaving us off 5 to 6 cents at mid-session on follow through profit taking from last Thursday's bullish crop report and new contract highs. Long term fundamentals remain intact. Demand into Asia continues strong and may get stronger as China continues not to deliver corn to Asian neighbors as production shortfalls plaque them. This leaves the U.S. as the word's primary port for feed corn. The downside still looks limit to support at 3.26 basis December futures and 3.22 for July. Consider the June 3.20 put option for downside insurance. Planting begins in the southern delta this week but main midwest producers will not kick in until lat next week. The first crop progress report comes out later today with our earliest planted acres.
