New buyers of AWB wheat rejected by Pakistan
Herald Sun Australia, March 19, 2004
A Pakistani owner of four Australian wheat cargoes rejected by the Pakistani Government over a disputed finding of Karnal bunt fungus has found buyers for two of the cargoes, say trade officials.
One cargo has been sold to Sri Lanka and another is scheduled to sail for Mombassa, Kenya.

The grain is likely to move this week.
The Pakistani owner is negotiating with Indonesia-based buyers over the other two cargoes, they say.

Pakistan Agriculture Storage and Services Corp have rejected all four of the cargoes of Australian wheat, 150,000 tonnes, this month, after a re-examination indicated that the grain was contaminated with Karnal bunt fungus.

Australia rejected the Pakistani finding, saying its wheat was not infected with the fungus, which is not harmful to humans but releases a bad smell.

Tradesman International bought the grain from Australian wheat exporter AWB and sold it to state-run PASSCO at $US224.75 a tonne.

The trader said negotiations between Tradesman and Indonesian buyers were advanced and a deal could be finalised soon as AWB was helping to find new buyers.
