Wheat weekly export inspection report
CBOT, March 12, 2004
Wheat began Monday with our weekly export inspection report showing 20.4 m.b. were inspected for near term export down from 29.5 the week prior and four week average of 22. It's a neutral number for demand. Thursdays weekly export sales report came in at 589 t.t. of wheat sold last week up from 562 the week prior and 43% over our four week average. Its not a good number considering were 30 cents off our recent high. We need 750 t.t. or more to support prices. Wed. crop report dealt no relief when it raised our carry over stocks 10 m.b. from the month prior. For wheat to rally we need demand to return and that will probably happen as lower prices come in. Or, if we turn dry in our western plains winter wheat states. After a very dry Dec. to Feb. period while the crop lay dormant, we saw big rains enter late Feb. to help replenish top soil. All winter wheat fields in Nebraska and Kansas remain dormant but Texas to Oklahoma are emerging. State crop ratings put Texas at 24% of the crop in good to excellent condition versus 19% the week prior and Colorado 18% and Kansas 35%. These are low ratings and leave wheat challenge to find good rains into our late May harvest. Government weather updates have the next 7 to 10 days as warmer and drier than normal. Good rains into months end and 3.50 basis July futures will be hit. If we turn dry and ratings drop, we will take out 3.70 resistance and push higher./ I f your not in, don't buy until we close over resistance, or push support.
