Corn report
CBOT, Feb 9, 2004
Corn started with our weekly export inspection report showing 32.8 million bushels were inspected for near term export down from 38.6 the week prior under the four week average of 35.5 but equal to a year ago. Year todate inspections are 817 m.b. versus 664 a year ago. It's a neutral number. We expected a slightly lower number as corn finished 10 cents off its low last week pushing importers to the sidelines. The U.S.D.A. announced ahead of the open that 110 t.t. of corn was sold to an unknown destination furthering thinking that corn sales to Asia continue to run smoothly. Corn broke after the open on news some chickens on a farm in Delaware had to be killed after a virus, similar to that in Asia, was discovered. This virus was said not to be dangerous to humans. This had large trading funds buy the lower opening. Additionally, the common thinking is we could see another cut in the carry over stocks on Tuesdays U.S.D.A. monthly crop report out ahead of the open. May corn has support at 2.77. For Tuesday, anything over last months carry over number of 981 m.b. and we will be lower on the open and under, we open higher. Tuesdays pricing is solely owned by what the report says. Wednesday we get back to trading demand signals.
