Corn - Weekly overview
CBOT - Jan 30, 2004
Corn started Monday with our weekly export inspection report showing 35.4 m.b. were inspected for near term export unchanged from the week prior but over a year ago of 26. It shows a firm demand signal for our near term. Thursdays weekly export sales report showed 775 t.t. of corn was sold last week off 22% from the week prior but 3% over the four week average. Asian sales were 580 t.t. up from 415 the week prior. Not a bullish number but a neutral to friendly number. In the big picture corn sales are up 32% on the year. The marketin gyear began Sept.1. There's much talk of the bird virus in Asia cutting feed demand from the U.S. Today we saw a purchase of 215 t.t. of corn sold to an unknown destination, which means Asia. Theres no slow down seen uet in feed demand . 72% of our exportable feed grains go to Asian countries not effected by the virus problem. I called for a break this week back to 2.71 as funds wil take month end proits. We saw a pull back from 2.81 last week to 2.68 before closing at 2.77 today Friday Jan. 30. Nov., what. Funds remain fat with profits and long position s so, there's still room to slide lower if news turns unfavorable. Demand remains the driving force next week. So our first theing is to buy insurance by purchasing the March 2.70 put option for 5 cents or 250 dollars and buy May futures. May has support at 2.71 then 2.59 with resistance at 2.86. The put gives you 3 weeks of downside risk protection. Put stops at 2.69 and if filled hold put options until 2.59 is hit then take profits.
