Corn – Weekly review
CBOT – Jan 23, 2004
Friday Jan. 23 and this is our weekly review. We started corn s reports with Tuesdays weekly export inspection report showing 35.5 m.b. were inspected for near term export up from 32.9 the week prior and year ago of 27.2. Inspections are up 126 m.b. over the year prior. This is a friendly weekly demand number as it came off higher on weekly prices the week prior. Fridays weekly export sales report came in at 999 t.t. sold last week that's up 19% from the week prior and 35% over the four week average. Large trading funds entered the week long about 140 thousand contracts, an exchange record. With talk of a ban on animal parts into our feed rotion by the U.S.D.A. leading to more corn in the rotion led to strength Wed. and talk of funds position exceeding 180 thousand contracts. Though corn looks on a mission to push 3.00 as the U.S replaces China as a corn supplier to Asian countries, were poised for a month end fund profit taking session as funds pay bonuses on profits taken before on profits taken before the month ends. March has support at 2.69 Monday and 2.71 Tuesday. Any pull back on month end profit taking to support should be bought as demand remains solid. We saw 300 t.t. of corn sales to unknown destinations this week. This is probably China. Long term we look up but next week could see a dip.
