CBOT - Corn export review
CBOT - Dec 19, 03
December 19, 2003 and this is weekly review. We kicked off Monday with our weekly export inspection report showing 36.9 million bushels were inspected for near term export off from 37.4 the week prior and four week average of 39. Though lower on the week sales should still be viewed as supportive. Inspections year to date are up 80 m.b. Thursdays weekly export sales report showed 923 t.t. of corn was sold last week. This was off from, 1.038 m.t. the week prior and 16% under the four week average. It's a soft number but Asian sales were at 569 t.t. versus 2158 the week prior. Japan was the sole buyer and generally considered a normal buyer. We need to see North and South Korea to enter as they had been purchasing Chinese corn and with the Chinese canceling corn sales to surrounding Asian neighbors starting Jan.1, we look to capture new business not scheduled as normal monthly business. Though long term into late January and early February we could see demand take March corn to 2.64, near term we could see a pull back to 2.38 to 2.42 by months end as funds and speculators hold a near record long positions. A close on March under 2.49 support sets us up for next support of 2.46 then 2.42. Resistance is 2.54
