CBOT - Wheat report
CBOT - Dec 17. 03
Wheat pushed to 7 cents down at midsession as long time U.S. wheat buyer Egypt purchased 180 t.t. of wheat with 120 going to long time U.S. competitor Australia and 60 t.t. to the U.S. This is not good export news as it suggests Australia is aggressively going after wheat business and may continue to cut into our market share. A close under 3.84 support sets us up for test of second support of 3.74. As I noted on my last report each time were at the 3.75 to 3.85 area demand surfaces and prices rise but with Australia's now on line to export their freshly harvested crop, longs have to have downside insurance. Buy March wheat on dips and purchase 2 Jan. 3.80 wheat puts for 4 cents or 200 dollars each for protection and get out of longs on a close under second support. There's a large contingent of traders that yet believe the historicly tight world wheat stocks will lead to wheat over 4.00 again but demand drives the market not supply. So, if demand is there at just under the 4.00 mark, it will surface but longs must be care full as a break in late Dec. could lead to 25 or 35 cents. Last year we broke into months end. Wheat pulled off it's opening low range as shorts covered in in anticipation of a potential wheat sale announcement to China at Thursday grain signing meeting at the C.B.T. exchange.
