MGE wheat ends mixed, nearbys weak on setback
CHICAGO, Dec 1 (Reuters) - Minneapolis Grain Exchange spring wheat futures closed mixed on Monday, with nearby months weak on profit-taking after Friday's strong gains, traders said.

MGE wheat closed 2 cents per bushel lower to 3 cents higher, with December down 1-1/4 at $3.98-3/4 per bushel. March was down 1/4 at $4.05-1/4 per bushel.

Wheat rallied sharply on Friday following the release of USDA's weekly export sales report, which showed stronger-than-expected U.S. wheat exports.

Wheat traders said the market on Monday was attempting to consolidate at the current higher price levels.

The market continues to hold out hope for continued sales of U.S. wheat to China despite Beijing's recent trade dispute with Washington. On Monday, traders in China said wheat prices jumped over the weekend, rekindling worries of possible food shortages ahead of the Lunar New Year festival in January.

Gains in wheat were seen limited by news on Saturday that Egypt's main official wheat buyer canceled a tender for 50,000 to 60,000 tonnes of wheat. The wheat buyer did not say why the tender was canceled.

Monday's USDA weekly export inspections report showed U.S. wheat inspected for export last week at 13.766 million bushels, below the low end of a range of estimates of 18.0 million to 22.0 million.

The CFTC commitments of traders data were delayed from their normal release on Friday due to the Nov. 27 Thanksgiving holiday. The data were to be issued on Monday after 2:30 p.m. CST (2030 GMT).

MGE spring wheat volume on Monday was estimated at 3,123 contracts, compared with Friday's trade of 2,827 lots.
