Viet Export Rice Prices Steady Amid Ample Stock, Low Exports
Hanoi, Export prices of Vietnamese rice were steady Tuesday from last week amid ample stocks and low demand, market participants said.
The market was rather quiet, as there aren't many rice export contracts at the moment, said a rice trader in Vinh Long province. Prices are also already at very low levels.
"The main reason for the prices being stable during the last two weeks is that (there are ample) stocks but (few) export contracts," the trader said.
Vinh Long Food Co. offered to sell 5% broken rice Tuesday at $183 a metric ton, FOB, steady from last week's quotation. It offered 15% broken rice steady at $170/ton, FOB, and 25% broken at $160/ton, unchanged from last week.
Vietnam's Ministry for Agriculture and Rural Development announced last week a winter-spring rice crop harvest of more than 16.5 million tons. The winter-spring crop is planted between December and February and harvested between April and June.
The summer-autumn crop harvest will start in August and run through September, while it was planted between April and June.
The Vietnam Food Association offered 5% broken rice at $185/ton, FOB and 15% broken at $170/ton, both unchanged from last week's prices.
The association offered 25% broken rice in the same range as last week at $160-$165/ton, FOB.
