Asian Rice:Prices Mostly Stable;Iran May Make New Purchase
Bangkok, Asian physical rice export prices were quoted as stable Wednesday amid steady demand for Thai and Vietnamese rice, Asian exporters and traders said.
buying interests for Vietnamese rice are looming, but a little number of transactions have been concluded, apparently," said a Vietnamese rice trader.
Rice supply is normal in Vietnam, with summer-autumn rice crop continuing to enter the market, he said.
Vietnamese 5% broken rice was offered Wednesday at $183 per metric ton, rather stable from earlier this week and last week.
In Thailand, rather limited supply and anticipated requirement from Iran appeared to help sustain prices at the current strong levels, Thai exporters said.
Iran is negotiating with several exporting companies for some additional rice since having bought 60,000 tons of 100% B grade rice recently, exporters said.
"I think Iran may agree to buy additional rice soon," said an export manager at a large company.
Thai 100% B grade rice was offered Wednesday at $211 a ton, FOB, quite firm from quotes so far this week and last week.
5% and 25% broken grade were also offered steady at $205/ton and $180-$181/ton, FOB, respectively.
