Russian weekly grain market report
MOSCOW , Russian grain prices have largely stopped rising, while flour prices are rising more slowly. Only sunoil market have kept rising strongly, traders said.
Prices of most cereals have been rising since January 2003 because of rapid falls in stock levels caused by record export volumes and expectations of a low harvest.
In most parts of the country during this period, feed wheat and feed barley, as well as food wheat price, rose by about 70 percent at a pace unseen since the 1998 financial crisis.
However, prices in most regions failed to reach the record levels seen at the end of the 2000/2001 season, and traders do not believe they will be reached by the end of the current agricultural year or at the beginning of the next.
Some believe the market has finally stabilised ahead of the new harvest, with prices of some grains, especially feed barley, declining slightly.
Rye is the only exception. Its prices have risen in most regions, and traders believe that the rise will continue.
They say rye prices are still lower than those of other cereals, while demand for rye from Ukraine is high.
The rise in wheat flour prices has slowed, and they have risen by 100-150 roubles per tonne in the last week, with traders believing they will stabilise in coming weeks.
