London wheat ends mixed
LONDON , London wheat futures closed mixed on Thursday in a quiet session and dealers said the market continued to be supported by forward interest.
Old-crop wheat dropped, as interest started turning towards the next harvest, with front-month July ending 1.55 pounds lower at 71.50 pounds a tonne on volume of 36 lots.
New-crop November closed 15 pence up at 73.35 pounds, with 169 lots changing hands from total turnover of 260.
Dealers said interest in the new crop had been driven by physical supply tightness.
"The old-crop market has seen a demise in interest of late and the market has come off today with no real volume. On new crop we saw a little bit of consumer demand on the deferred positions and still a bit of shipper selling on November," one dealer said.
Dealers said market players were continuing to position themselves before the front position expires on July 7.
July wheat is unwinding after a strong 2002/03 export campaign had squeezed prices sharply higher towards 80.00 pounds a tonne.
